As the winter season approaches and the pleasant cool weather sets in, outdoor seating areas outside restaurants and cafes have become increasingly popular. However, it’s crucial for restaurant and cafe owners to be aware of the rules and regulations governing these al fresco spaces. The Abu Dhabi City Municipality has made it clear that there are specific guidelines in place, and violations can result in UAE Fines of up to Dh5,000.
To ensure that everything is in compliance, permits are required when setting up temporary outdoor seating areas near commercial establishments, which include shops, eateries, cafes, and various service venues. As part of their efforts to inform the public and business owners, the municipality has launched a campaign to emphasize the importance of adhering to these regulations.
Here are the key requirements that business owners need to keep in mind:
Permit Application: Business owners can apply for permits through the TAMM platform. However, they must have the consent of the building owner and a valid lease agreement of at least six months.
Evaluation of Outdoor Seating Dimensions: The City Municipality Centre will assess the proposed outdoor seating area’s dimensions and determine the applicable fees.
Permit Fees: The permit fee for outdoor seating is determined based on the required space and includes a refundable deposit of Dh10,000.
Validity and Renewal: Permits issued for outdoor seating are valid for one year, with the option of renewal.
Revocation of Permit: The municipality retains the right to revoke the permit if the terms are violated or if urban development necessitates it, with no liability for potential losses to the permit holder.
Detailed Layout Plan: Business owners are required to submit a detailed layout plan that specifies the arrangement of tables, chairs, and shading devices, in accordance with established guidelines.
It’s essential to be aware that unauthorized outdoor seating areas can result in a significant fine of Dh5,000, while violations of permit conditions can lead to a penalty of Dh3,000, as emphasized by the authority.
In an effort to enhance public awareness and understanding of these regulations, the Abu Dhabi City Municipality, in collaboration with the City Municipality Centre, has launched this campaign. We encourage all business owners to diligently follow these rules and procedures to ensure the safety and comfort of their patrons and to avoid any fines or penalties. Your cooperation in maintaining the cleanliness and order of these outdoor spaces is greatly appreciated, and it contributes to a more enjoyable and compliant dining experience for everyone.
